Caption COLONEL JAMES WOOD James Wood, founder of Winchester, named for his native city in England, was the first clerk of Frederick County Court, which was organized in 1743 at the house on his estate, "Glen Burnie." His son, General James Wood, was Governor of Virginia, 1796-1799. Conservation & Development Commission, 1930.
