FORT MCCAUSLAND
The fort on ths hill here was constructed by General J.A. Early to protect the approach to Lynchburg from the west. Union cavalry skirmished with the Confederates along the road immediately west of the fort. The unionists, driven back by General McCausland, were unable to enter the city from this direction.
