Caption LAST HOME OF WADE HAMPTON Wade Hampton, III, born March 28, 1818, was commander of Hampton Legion, 1861, with rank of Colonel; Lieutenant General, C. S. A., 1865; Governor of S. C. 1876-79; U. S. Senator 1879-91. He died April 11, 1902 in this house, given to him in 1899 by a grateful people. Erected 1938 by The Columbia Sesquicentennial Commission of 1936.
