Marker text: PROVIDENCE

Two miles east is the Glebe House where the Rev. Archibald McRoberts lived during the Revolution. Tarleton, raiding through this setion in July, 1781, set fire to the house, but a timely rain put out the flames. Accordingly, the place was named "Providence."
