Marker text: DUNGENESS

Seven miles south once stood Dungeness, built about 1730 by Isham Randolph (1695-1742) who was the grandfather of Thomas Jefferson, President of the United States, and of James Pleasants, governor of Virginia. Sea captain, merchant and planter, Randolph aloso served as Virginia's agent in London and Adjutant General of the Colony.
