Named in honor of Gen. Andrew Jackson. This cantonment site 11/2 mi. north was approved by the War Dept. June 2, 1917. Maximum strength was recorded in June 1918: 3,302 officers; 45,402 men. 81st Division was trained here Aug. 29, 1917-May 18, 1918; the 5th Division stationed here Oct. 20, 1920-Oct. 4, 1921.Made a training camp for National Guard 1925.
Erected in 1938 by the Columbia Sesquicentennial Commission of 1936
